Coniston Water is about five miles long and half a mile wide. Above its western shore, the mountain of the Old Man of Coniston towers above the lake and the village. The lake is about half a mile down from the village, where you can hire boats and bikes from.We walked to Tarn Hows from Monk Coniston, it was fairly quiet on the way but once we arrived at the lake a bit bussier.

I think most people probably drive directly to Tarn Hows, park and then walk around the lake rather than hike there. Its quite scenic, very scenic in early /5(K).
